The Apex Theory

The Apex Theory emerged in the late 1990s, carving out a niche for themselves in the ever-evolving landscape of alternative metal. Formed by vocalist Andy Khachaturian—who was the original drummer for System of a Down—along with guitarist Art Karamian, bassist David Hakopyan, and drummer Sammy J. Watson, The Apex Theory brought together a diverse array of musical influences, from progressive rock to traditional Middle Eastern rhythms, creating a sound that was both unique and compelling.

After stirring considerable buzz with their energetic live performances and distinctive fusion of styles, The Apex Theory released their breakthrough album "Topsy-Turvy" in 2002 under the DreamWorks label. The album was well-received, distinguished by its melodic complexity and the impassioned delivery of Khachaturian. Though the band would eventually part ways with their vocalist and undergo a name change to Mt. Helium, The Apex Theory remains a memorable act for their contributions to the progressive metal genre. Tracks such as "Lightpost" continue to echo the creative dynamism the band was known for. Although they never achieved mainstream success, their 2006 live rendition of "Lullaby" at the Henry Fonda Theater remains a testament to the raw, live energy that defined their identity on stage.
