Jlin

Jlin, an innovative force in electronic music, hails from Gary, Indiana, a city more famously known as the birthplace of the Jackson family. Jlin, whose real name is Jerrilynn Patton, first made waves in the burgeoning footwork scene, a genre known for its frenetic tempo and intricate rhythmic patterns that originated in Chicago. Her emergence as a distinct voice in the genre came with critical acclaim upon the release of her debut album "Dark Energy" in 2015, followed by her sophomore effort "Black Origami" in 2017. These works have established Jlin as a producer with a unique sonic footprint, characterized by complex percussive structures and a departure from the use of sampling, a common feature in footwork, in favor of original sound design.

Jlin's artistry transcends the traditional boundaries of footwork, incorporating elements of industrial, avant-garde and classical music into her compositions. Notably absent from her tracks are the continuous looping and pitch-shifted vocal samples typical of the genre; instead, she opts for crafting her sounds from scratch, a testament to her commitment to innovation. Her catalog features a number of standout remixes and original tracks, grabbing attention with releases like "Open Canvas" and "The Move Groove," as well as her transformative remix work, such as the haunting "Nocturnes No. 4 (Jlin Remix)" and the intricate "Fractal (Jlin Remix)." With each new release, Jlin continues to challenge expectations and expand her musical perspectives, confirming her status as a vanguard artist reshaping the contours of electronic music.
