Surorile Osoianu is a beloved family folk ensemble from Moldova, made up of five sisters born in the village of Horești, Fălești district. They have a deep connection to traditional Moldovan and Romanian folk music, covering a wide range of styles, including lullabies, ballads, colinde (carols), doine, and pastoral songs. Educated in music and ethnomusicology, they play instruments such as accordion, violin, cobza, and flute, preserving and revitalizing folk traditions with heartfelt authenticity. Beyond performing, they lead children’s folk studios and ensembles in Chișinău, nurturing the next generation of traditional musicians.
The Osoianu sisters have an extensive performance history, touring countries such as Romania, Germany, France, and Russia, and have released several albums including “Colinde din Transnistria” and “Cântec mândru de la Prut.” They are also known for collaborations with various artists and ensembles, like Zdob și Zdub and Loredana Groza. Their work honors their heritage while adapting tradition for modern audiences, sometimes blending their music with contemporary genres. Recognized as “Maeștri în Artă,” they continue to inspire with their passion for preserving folk culture and organizing folk festivals in their home region.
