Herman Brood & His Wild Romance

Herman Brood & His Wild Romance are emblematic of the Dutch rock scene, their legacy intertwined with the charismatic, larger-than-life figure of frontman Herman Brood. Born on November 5, 1946 in Zwolle, Netherlands, Brood was not just a musician but also a painter, actor, and poet, often referred to as the Dutch equivalent of the Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll lifestyle. Brood distinguished himself with his gritty voice, piano skills, and hedonistic persona, forming Herman Brood & His Wild Romance in 1976.

Herman Brood & His Wild Romance, often simply referred to as The Wild Romance or His Wild Romance, catapulted to fame in the late 1970s and early '80s with a raw, energetic blend of rock, punk, and blues, fuelled by Brood's charismatic stage presence and a talent for crafting catchy tunes that radiated the spirit of rock 'n' roll. They achieved international fame with the hit “Saturday Night,” which epitomized their signature sound. Over the years, the band's lineup saw various changes, but the constant presence of Brood ensured the band remained an iconic staple in the Dutch rock music scene. Sadly, Brood's lifelong struggles with various addictions culminated in his suicide in 2001. Despite his tragic end, Herman Brood & His Wild Romance's music lives on, influencing generations and continuing to be celebrated, with posthumous releases like "B4-Street (Lost Tapes 1976)" and "Live At Rockpalast (Dortmund 1978, Cologne 1990)" capturing the raw live energy of their performances from the band's heyday.
