M. K. Sankaran Namboothiri

M. K. Sankaran Namboothiri, also known as Pranavam Sankaran Namboothiri, is a celebrated Carnatic classical vocalist hailing from Kerala. Born in 1971 in Punnayam, Ernakulam district, he gained recognition early on as a child prodigy, beginning his musical training at the age of ten under the guidance of C. S. Narayanan Namboothiri. He further honed his craft with esteemed mentors like T. V. Gopalakrishnan, Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma, and K. V. Narayanaswamy. Sankaran became the youngest ‘A’ Top grade vocalist with All India Radio and has performed extensively both across India and internationally, captivating audiences in countries such as the USA, Germany, France, Britain, and Australia with his rich and traditional style.

Coming from a musical family—his father, Krishnan Namboothiri, was a Kathakali singer—Sankaran has maintained a deep connection to his cultural roots while also working as a playback singer. Throughout his career, he has been honored with prestigious scholarships and fellowships by the Indian government and has also contributed as a music lecturer at notable institutes like the Madras Music Academy’s Teacher’s College of Music. Sankaran currently resides in Cochin with his family, continuing to enchant Carnatic music fans with his soulful renditions.
