Survivor is an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1978 by core members Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. The group's music is characterized by its melodic rock appeal, catchy guitar riffs, and power ballads. Survivor's rise to fame was propelled by their breakthrough single, "Eye of the Tiger," the theme song for the 1982 film "Rocky III." The track not only topped the Billboard charts but also became an anthem for perseverance and determination, earning the band a Grammy Award.
Over the years, Survivor experienced several lineup changes, with vocalist Dave Bickler, known for his performance on "Eye of the Tiger," being replaced for a period by Jimi Jamison, whose voice carried many of the band's hits in the 1980s such as "Burning Heart" and "The Search Is Over." Despite internal changes and the evolving music scene, Survivor managed to maintain their relevance through albums like "Premonition," their eponymous debut "Survivor," "Caught in the Game," "Vital Signs," which marked a resurgence for the band, "When Seconds Count," and "Too Hot to Sleep." Even after stepping back from the forefront of the music scene, Survivor continues to be remembered for their significant contributions to rock and their embodiment of the spirit of the 1980s.
