The Long Ryders

The Long Ryders are an American alternative country and Paisley Underground band, which rose to prominence in the 1980s. The group was originally formed in 1981 by Sid Griffin, who handled the majority of songwriting duties, and was joined by Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens, and Greg Sowders. Their music is marked by a combination of country, rock, and punk influences, which together create a distinctive sound often referred to as cowpunk. The Long Ryders are known for their spirited live performances and for contributing to the resurgence of American roots music alongside other acts of the era.

The band's discography includes a number of influential recordings, with "Native Sons" (1984) frequently cited as a cornerstone of their career. After their initial split in 1987, The Long Ryders intermittently reunited for tours and recording sessions, maintaining a dedicated cult following. In 2019, they released their first new album in over thirty years, "Psychedelic Country Soul," which was lauded as a return to form and featured their classic blend of Americana-infused rock. The album's title aptly captures the essence of their sound—a melange of psychedelic flourishes, heartfelt country roots, and the soulful energy of rock and roll. As indicated by their recent releases, The Long Ryders continue to thrive in the live music scene, connecting with audiences new and old through their dynamic performances and steadfast dedication to their craft.
