Michael Kocáb

Michael Kocáb is a Czech musician, composer, and political activist best known as the frontman of the legendary Czech rock band Pražský výběr. Active since the late 1970s, the band became one of the most influential and provocative acts in the former Czechoslovakia, blending rock, jazz, and new wave with bold, often politically charged lyrics. Kocáb's expressive vocal style and theatrical stage presence helped define the group’s unique sound and anti-establishment ethos, particularly under Communist rule.

Beyond his music career, Michael Kocáb played a significant role in Czech politics during the country's transition from communism to democracy. He was notably involved in the Velvet Revolution and held governmental roles in the early 1990s. Kocáb has continued releasing solo work blending rock, electronic, and orchestral styles, and remains an outspoken cultural figure in Czech society.
