Jay Rock

Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr., better known by his stage name Jay Rock, is an American rapper hailing from the notorious Nickerson Gardens projects in Watts, Los Angeles. McGruder's career as a prominent voice in West Coast hip-hop began to take shape with the release of his 2008 mixtape "Tales from the Hood" and his 2010 debut studio album "Follow Me Home," which caught the public eye for its raw depiction of street life and Jay Rock's vigorous flow. Signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), he is an original member of the label's supergroup, Black Hippy, alongside fellow Los Angeles rappers Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q.

In his continued ascent, Jay Rock has earned critical acclaim and a growing fan base through his gritty storytelling and authentic representation of the struggles and triumphs of urban life. His subsequent projects, including the highly praised "90059" in 2015 and the commercially successful "Redemption" in 2018, have solidified his place in the hip-hop industry. Jay Rock's collaborations with artists like Anderson .Paak and Latto in tracks like "Too Fast (Pull Over)" demonstrate his versatility and ability to remain relevant in a rapidly changing musical landscape. With his most recent releases such as "Pressure" and "Own Two," Jay Rock continues to push creative boundaries while staying true to his streetwise narratives and thought-provoking lyricism.
