Palais Schaumburg

Palais Schaumburg was a German band formed in the early 1980s, known for their avant-garde approach to pop and their role in the Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave) movement. The group, originally founded in Hamburg, was named after the former residence of the German chancellor, reflecting their often ironic and cerebral take on politics and culture. Their sound blended punk, funk, and experimental elements, characterized by jittery rhythms, angular guitar work, and Dadaist lyrics.

The original lineup included Thomas Fehlmann, Holger Hiller, Timo Blunck, and percussionist F. M. Einheit (who was later replaced). Palais Schaumburg's self-titled debut album, produced by legendary producer David Cunningham, captured their eclectic, art school vibe. Though they weren’t a commercial powerhouse, the band gained a cult following and remain influential figures in the development of German new wave and electronic music.
