Old Man Markley is a high-energy, genre-blending band from Los Angeles that fuses punk rock with bluegrass to create a foot-stomping, banjo-fueled sound all their own. Formed in the late 2000s, the group quickly gained attention for its unique instrumentation—featuring banjos, fiddles, and washboards alongside electric guitar and bass—and its ability to seamlessly merge the raw spirit of punk with the down-home charm of Americana. The band got an early boost from signing with Fat Wreck Chords, the iconic punk label led by NOFX’s Fat Mike.
Their debut album, Guts n' Teeth, dropped in 2011 and set the tone with fast tempos, catchy choruses, and heartfelt lyrics. They followed it up with 2013’s Down Side Up, further solidifying their reputation for dynamic live performances and genre-defying music. With songs like “Stupid Today” and “Blood On My Hands,” Old Man Markley carved out a niche that appealed to fans of punk, folk, and everything in between.
