Siegfried Jerusalem is a German operatic tenor, best known for his commanding performances in the works of Richard Wagner. Born in 1940 in Oberhausen, Germany, he originally trained as a bassoonist before transitioning to a singing career. Over the years, Jerusalem became one of the leading Heldentenors of his generation, earning acclaim for his roles in Wagner's Ring Cycle, Tristan und Isolde, and Lohengrin. His powerful voice and dramatic intensity made him a favorite at major opera houses worldwide, including the Bayreuth Festival, where he performed extensively. Beyond Wagner, he also explored a wide-ranging repertoire, from Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde to lighter operettas.
