Utopia

Utopia were an American progressive rock band formed in 1973 by Todd Rundgren. Initially more of a collaborative project with a rotating cast of musicians, the band eventually solidified around the core lineup of Rundgren, Kevin Ellman (keyboards, vocals), Mark "Moogy" Klingman (keyboards, vocals), and John "Willie" Wilcox (drums). Known for their complex arrangements, intricate harmonies, and lengthy jams, Utopia started out exploring experimental and progressive sounds before shifting towards a more power pop and new wave direction in the late 70s. They released a string of albums throughout the decade, including "Todd Rundgren's Utopia," "Another Live," and "Ra," and toured extensively.

While never achieving massive mainstream success, Utopia cultivated a dedicated following who appreciated their musicianship and adventurous spirit. They continued to evolve their sound throughout their career, even dabbling in theatrical stage productions. Though the band officially disbanded in 1986, they've reunited for several short tours and one-off performances over the years, keeping their music and legacy alive.
