The Tigers were a UK-based band formed in the autumn of 1979 by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Tony Jacks. They delivered a punchy blend of pop, rock, and ska, with their music characterized by quick, catchy, and energetic songs. Early on, they recorded their album "Savage Music" in Camden Town, London, working late-night sessions with engineer Alvin Clark. Their initial singles, including "Savage Music," "Jack it Up," and "Kidding Stops," gained recognition and airplay, notably supported by BBC Radio One’s John Peel. The band's sound caught the attention of the music press, with "Kidding Stops" being named 'Record of the Week' by NME’s Danny Baker in 1979. They later signed with Warner UK and A&M Records, touring small clubs in the US and performing in major cities like New York and Los Angeles, earning positive reviews for their live shows and their one American LP, "Savage Music".
Later releases from The Tigers include albums and singles such as "The Young Ones," "Strictly Instrumental," "Back in Town / Lawn & Garden," "Beautiful Forest," "Shout & Testify - Trombone Shout Band Music A Live Documentary Recording," "Christmas Album," and "Space Coyote," showcasing their evolving musical explorations and styles. The band established a reputation for their dynamic live performances and eclectic sound that blends various genres while maintaining a strong pop sensibility.
