Hansel Y Raul were a dynamic Cuban musical duo that made a big splash in the Latin music scene in the 1980s. Hansel Enrique Martinez and Raul Alfonso started their careers in 1976 as part of the popular New York-based group Charanga '76. In 1980, they struck out on their own, forming the duo Hansel Y Raul.
The pair became known for their energetic tropical dance music, blending charanga and salsa styles. They achieved international success with hits like "Maria Teresa y Danilo" and toured extensively around the world. In 1987, they received three Latin Grammy nominations, winning for Best Tropical Song. Despite their popularity, the duo separated in 1988, though they later reunited in 1998 for new recordings and performances.
