Gundecha Brothers

The Gundecha Brothers—Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha—were renowned performers of Dhrupad, one of the oldest and most meditative forms of North Indian classical music. Steeped in tradition and known for their deep, powerful vocals and mastery of rhythm and raga, the brothers were instrumental in popularizing Dhrupad both in India and around the world. Trained under the Dagar lineage, they brought a unique blend of soulful spirituality and rigorous discipline to their performances.

Beyond the concert stage, the Gundecha Brothers were also dedicated educators. They established the Dhrupad Sansthan, a school in Bhopal, India, where they mentored a new generation of Dhrupad singers and instrumentalists from across the globe. Their work played a key role in reviving interest in Dhrupad and ensuring its continuation into the 21st century. After Ramakant Gundecha’s passing in 2019, the tradition has been carried forward by Umakant and other members of the Gundecha family.
