Ziba Shirazi is an Iranian-American poet, singer, songwriter, and storyteller known for blending Persian melodies with world music and jazz. Born and raised in Iran, she moved to the United States in 1985, where she has single-handedly produced and promoted seven albums since 1990. Her compositions often reflect themes of love, compassion, and universal human stories, with a strong feminist tone, earning her the title "Voice of Women" in the Iranian community. In addition to her music, Ziba is also a lecturer at Santa Monica College.
Ziba's work extends beyond music, as she created the lyrical storytelling performance "Story & Song," which highlights the struggles of Iranian immigrants. Her performances have been widely acclaimed, including her musical production "Spring Love," staged at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She co-authored a book, "Iranian Diaspora Identities: Stories and Songs," with Dr. Kamran Afary, exploring themes of migration and identity through oral history and song lyrics. Her music and storytelling have been celebrated for crossing cultural boundaries, sharing messages of unity and peace with a wide audience.
