Bis

Bis was a trailblazing British indie pop band hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, not to be confused with the artist associated with drill music. Formed in 1994, the band consisted of three members: Steven Clark (Sci-fi Steven), John Clark (John Disco), and Amanda MacKinnon (Manda Rin), their stage names underscoring the trio's penchant for synthesizers and catchy hooks influenced by punk and dance music. The group gained rapid attention with their youthful energy and DIY approach, culminating in a historic appearance on the BBC's "Top of the Pops" before they even signed to a record label, a feat unheard of for unsigned bands at the time.

Their sound was distinctively marked by exuberant, punk-inflected pop tunes and their embrace of a defiant, cheeky ethos, encapsulated by their breakout EP, "The Secret Vampire Soundtrack." Throughout the late 90s, they released several albums and singles that left an indelible mark on the indie pop landscape, including "The New Transistor Heroes" and the infectious track "Kandy Pop." Despite disbanding in 2003, Bis left behind a lasting legacy and a devoted fanbase. The band reunited in 2009 for a series of shows and subsequently released "data Panik etcetera" in 2014, offering fans new material that paid homage to their original, unique sound while demonstrating their maturation as artists. Bis's influence is evident in the next generation of indie pop artists who continue to draw inspiration from their pioneering blend of styles and charismatic presence.
