Humble Pie

Humble Pie stands tall as one of the foundational hard rock acts that emerged out of England in the late 1960s. A supergroup before the term became commonplace, they were originally formed by frontman and former Small Faces vocalist Steve Marriott and bassist Greg Ridley of Spooky Tooth, with teenage guitar prodigy Peter Frampton and drummer Jerry Shirley rounding out the quartet. The blend of Marriott's soulful voice and Frampton's technical prowess gave the band a distinctive edge in the heavy rock scene.

Their musical style combined hard rock with blues, R&B, and soul influences, a mix that came to define the classic rock genre. Albums like "Smokin'" and "Rock On" solidified their status as a premier live act, known for their energetic performances and instrumental excellence. Notable tracks like "30 Days in the Hole" and their fiery cover of "I Don't Need No Doctor" became staples of the era. Though the band went through lineup changes, with Frampton leaving in 1971 to pursue a successful solo career and being replaced by such talents as Clem Clempson, the core ethos of Humble Pie remained rooted in their dynamic blues-rock sound. In recent years, despite the passing of key members Steve Marriott in 1991 and Greg Ridley in 2003, their legacy has been kept alive through releases of rare recordings and live performances, showcasing the enduring appeal of their gritty and heartfelt rock 'n' roll.
