Weapon of Choice

Weapon of Choice is a modern funk band from Los Angeles, known for its vibrant blend of funk, reggae, ska, and other groove-heavy styles. The group was founded in 1992 by bassist and vocalist Lonnie "Meganut" Marshall after the breakup of his previous band, Marshall Law, which he formed with his brother, guitarist Arik Marshall. Lonnie's early exposure to the legendary P-Funk scene deeply influenced the band's eclectic sound and energetic live performances. Weapon of Choice gained significant attention when their video for the song "Uppity Yuppity Doolittle" caught the eye of Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard, leading to a signing with his label Loosegroove. The band released several albums through Loosegroove, including *Nut-meg Says Bozo the Town* (1994), *Highperspice* (1996), and *Nutmeg Phantasy* (1998), establishing a reputation for their infectious grooves and colorful stage shows.

Over the years, Weapon of Choice has continued evolving while maintaining their signature "nutmeg" funk style—a playful term they use for their unique musical flavor. Though their lineup has changed, Lonnie has kept the band active mainly in the Los Angeles area, delivering spirited performances and releases such as *Illoominutty* (2001) and *Color Me Funky* (2003). They also produced a DVD, *Weapon of Choice: Uncut Nut 1992–2006*, showcasing their dynamic presence and history. The band remains a beloved fixture in the local funk scene, celebrated for their fusion of sounds and charismatic live energy.
