Daniel Schell

Daniel Schell is a multifaceted musician with a strong background in both music and mathematics. Born on November 30, 1943, he is a trained civil engineer from the University of Brussels and holds an M.Sc. in Operational Research from the London School of Economics. Musically, Schell has explored a wide range of genres and instruments, including the guitar and tap-guitar. He founded the group Cos in the late 1970s, known for albums like "Postaeolian Train Robbery" and "Viva Boma," and later formed Ensemble Karo in the 1990s with whom he has released albums such as "If Windows They Have" and "The Secret of Bwlch." Schell is also a versatile composer, having written operas and arrangements for films, and has worked with musicians like Ariane De Bièvre and Sandip Banerjee in the Karo Trio, focusing on half-written, half-improvised music.

In addition to his work with Ensemble Karo, Schell has delved into various musical projects, including composing for silent films and collaborating on projects like "Gira Girasole," which explores Italian popular themes. He is also known for his work on the tap-guitar, an instrument he has developed techniques for and teaches through the European Tap Seminar. His diverse musical interests and collaborations reflect his unique blend of creativity and technical skill.
