Buzzcocks are a seminal British punk band formed in 1976 in Bolton, Greater Manchester by Pete Shelley (vocals/guitar) and Howard Devoto (vocals), who soon after recruited Steve Diggle (guitar) and John Maher (drums). Known for merging punk’s energy with catchy melodies and introspective lyrics, they became one of the first bands to establish the independent record label trend with their self-released EP, "Spiral Scratch." Devoto left the band in 1977, but with Shelley at the helm, Buzzcocks produced a string of hit singles including "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" and albums that secured their place in punk history.
Over the years, Buzzcocks have experienced numerous lineup changes and periods of hiatus. Pete Shelley remained as a key figure and driving force behind the band's music until his untimely death in 2018. But the band's legacy continued, they released the album "The Way" in 2014, reflecting their classic sound with a modern twist, and followed with "Late For The Train: Live And In Session 1989-2016," showcasing live sessions and performances that spanned nearly three decades. Even as the Buzzcocks approached the third decade of the 21st century, they maintained their relevance and connection to fans old and new with their vibrant punk ethos. With their incessant touring and recording, such as "Sonics In The Soul" and "Manchester Rain," Buzzcocks affirm their status as not only punk pioneers but also as enduring artists within the fluid landscape of rock music.
