Memoriam is a British death metal band known for their thunderous blend of heavy riffs and war-themed lyrics, establishing a formidable presence on the extreme metal scene. Formed in 2016, the band arose from the ashes of Bolt Thrower following the untimely death of their drummer, Martin Kearns, and became a vessel through which the members processed their grief and memorialized their fallen comrade. Comprising veterans of the metal community, the lineup includes frontman Karl Willetts, also from Bolt Thrower, joined by bassist Frank Healy of Benediction, drummer Andy Whale, also a Bolt Thrower alumnus, and guitarist Scott Fairfax, previously of Life Denied and Benediction (live).
Memoriam has quickly built a discography reflecting their dedication to their craft and the legacies of fallen heroes. Their debut album, "For the Fallen" (2017), was an emotional inaugural release, mixing old-school death metal influences with contemporary crispness. They have since been prolific, maintaining a relentless work ethic with subsequent albums "The Silent Vigil" (2018), and "Requiem for Mankind" (2019), each building upon the band's reputation for blending crushing power with poignant themes of war, loss, and remembrance. Their more recent work, including 2021's "To the End", continues to showcase the band's compositional strength and lyrical depth, exploring the harsh realities of conflict and the human cost that accompanies it. With their discography growing and their global fanbase expanding, Memoriam stands tall as torchbearers of the death metal tradition, honoring the past while continuously marching into the future.
