Gum

GUM is the solo psychedelic rock and synth-pop project of Jay Watson, a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Western Australia. Known primarily as the drummer for the bands Pond and Tame Impala, Watson launched GUM in 2011, with the name deriving from his nickname "Gumby." His solo work blends dreamy, synth-enhanced psych rock with varied influences ranging from fuzz-heavy guitar textures to robotic synth sounds. GUM’s debut album, *Delorean Highway*, came out in 2014, followed by several more albums including *The Underdog* (2018), *Out in the World* (2020), and *Saturnia* (2023). His latest release, *Ill Times* (2024), is a collaboration with Ambrose Kenny-Smith, showcasing a colorful yet loss-themed evolution in his sound.

Watson balances GUM alongside his commitments to Pond and Tame Impala, contributing to a sound that is both cosmic and approachable, appealing to fans of modern neo-psychedelia. GUM’s music offers a diverse palette of moods and textures, often representing a personal and exploratory side of Watson’s artistry outside his band work.
