Elvin Bishop

Elvin Bishop is an American blues and rock music guitarist, singer, and songwriter with a career that spans more than half a century. Born on October 21, 1942, in Glendale, California, Bishop grew up on a farm in Iowa where he was introduced to the blues. He first picked up the guitar as a teenager and honed his skills, eventually earning a scholarship to the University of Chicago. It was in Chicago that Bishop immersed himself in the local blues scene, crossing paths with legendary acts such as Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Otis Rush.

In the early 1960s, Bishop co-founded the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, which played a significant role in introducing blues music to a wider audience, particularly among young white listeners. His tenure with the band helped forge a sound that blended traditional blues with rock and psychedelia. In 1968, Bishop embarked on a solo career, achieving success with hits like "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" in 1976. Over the years, he has continued to release music and tour, remaining a stalwart figure in the blues world. His recent releases, such as "100 Years Of Blues" and "Something Smells Funky 'Round Here," showcase the maturity of his artistry and his continued passion for the genre, confirming his status as a blues icon and an enduring influence in American music.
