Corneille, whose full name is Corneille Nyungura, is a Rwandan-Canadian R&B and soul singer-songwriter. He was born on March 24, 1977, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, to Rwandan parents and moved to Rwanda with his family at a very young age. His music career, however, truly began after a deeply personal tragedy: the loss of his family during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. After this harrowing experience, Corneille moved to Germany and then to Canada, where he sought asylum and began his musical ascent.
His soothing voice and poignant lyrics, often reflecting his experiences and hopes for love and peace, have earned him a dedicated fan base. Corneille sings predominantly in French but has released songs in English as well, showcasing his linguistic versatility. Breaking onto the scene with his debut album "Parce qu'on vient de loin" in 2002, he quickly made a name for himself in the Francophone music world. Over the years, Corneille has continued to captivate audiences with his elegant blend of soul, pop, and R&B, resulting in a string of hit albums and singles. His more recent works, such as "Avec classe," "Notre année," and "Parce qu'on aime," continue to underscore his emotive storytelling and his evolution as an artist, bringing together both contemporary sounds and heartfelt narratives.
