Jackey Beavers, born Robert Lewis Beavers in 1937 in Cartersville, Georgia, was a talented rhythm and blues and gospel singer, songwriter, and producer who played a notable role in the 1960s Detroit soul scene. Early in his career, he teamed up with Johnny Bristol to form the duo "Johnny and Jackey," with whom he co-wrote the song "Someday We'll Be Together," which later became a number one hit for Diana Ross and the Supremes. Though he never found major commercial success as a solo artist, Beavers recorded for several labels and produced songs cherished by Northern soul fans. Beyond music, he was also a community-focused pastor and activist.
Jackey's journey began after leaving high school and joining the U.S. Air Force, where he met Johnny Bristol. Their duo signed with labels connected to Berry Gordy’s family and later worked with various other labels. He was also active as a songwriter, penning songs for artists like Joe Simon and Ella Washington. After years in music, he returned to Cartersville, pursued a college degree, and became an ordained minister, dedicating himself to helping his community until he passed away in 2008.
