Phil Donkin

Phil Donkin is a British jazz bassist born in November 1980 in Sunderland, England. He began playing electric bass at the age of 12 and later moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he transitioned to the acoustic bass. After graduating in 2003, Donkin became a prominent figure in the UK jazz scene, collaborating with notable musicians such as Kenny Wheeler, Julian Arguelles, and Gwilym Simcock. He has also toured extensively across Europe and worked with international jazz legends like Quincy Jones and Kurt Rosenwinkel. In 2010, Donkin relocated to New York City, further expanding his musical network by performing with artists like Ben Monder and Mark Turner. He has released albums such as *Dimaxis* and *The Gate*, showcasing his versatility as a bassist and band leader.

Donkin's career has spanned multiple continents, with significant contributions to both European and American jazz scenes. He has been part of various projects, including collaborations with Marius Neset and Nils Wogram. His music reflects a deep engagement with the jazz tradition while embracing contemporary influences. Currently based in Europe, Phil Donkin continues to be an active and respected figure in the global jazz community.
