She comes from a musical family, with her mother being an organist and choirmaster, and her father a composer and piano teacher. Buechi began her musical journey with violin lessons at the age of five, later learning piano and guitar. She studied at the Jazz Department of the College of Music, where she was influenced by notable jazz figures such as Lauren Newton and Susanne Abbuehl. Her vocal style incorporates microtonal elements from South Indian music, which she learned during her time at the Karnataka College of Percussion.
