Sarah Buechi

Sarah Buechi is a Swiss jazz singer born on October 18, 1981, in Luzern. She comes from a musical family, with her mother being an organist and choirmaster, and her father a composer and piano teacher. Buechi began her musical journey with violin lessons at the age of five, later learning piano and guitar. She studied at the Jazz Department of the College of Music, where she was influenced by notable jazz figures such as Lauren Newton and Susanne Abbuehl. Her vocal style incorporates microtonal elements from South Indian music, which she learned during her time at the Karnataka College of Percussion. Buechi has performed with various groups, including the Swiss Indian Orchestra and her own band, Thali, and has released several albums, including "Vidya Mani," "Flying Letters," and "Shadow Garden."

Some of her recent works include "Pink Mountain Sagas," "Moon and Man," and "Animata," showcasing her diverse musical exploration. Buechi's career has also included teaching roles, such as being a lecturer at the Newpark Music Center in Dublin. Her unique blend of jazz and South Indian musical influences sets her apart in the jazz scene.
