Neo Geodesia is the artistic persona of Saphy Vong, a French Cambodian audio-visual artist. Born in a Thai refugee camp after his parents fled the Khmer Rouge, Vong grew up in the suburbs of Nancy, northeastern France. His unique musical style combines experimental and DIY elements from the Nancy Hardcore and Grindcore scenes with traditional Khmer music and sounds from his family's cultural background, including Khmer pop, karaoke, monk chants, and films. After years of producing electronic music under the alias Lafidki, Neo Geodesia has gained recognition for fusing electronic processes with traditional Khmer music, emphasizing textures like granular sounds and polyrhythms.
Neo Geodesia is associated with notable performances alongside artists like Foodman and Zoë mc Pherson at venues such as Cafe OTO and Tate Britain. His music has been featured in prominent publications and platforms, including Resident Advisor, NPR, and NTS. Vong is also the founder of Chinabot, a label dedicated to promoting experimental musicians from the Asian diaspora, where he released his latest album, "2562 Neon Flames." This release, along with others like "Typhoon Ω Moni Mekhala" and "Venomesis," showcases his evolving blend of electronic and traditional sounds.
