Dele Sosimi

Dele Sosimi stands among the most active and influential musicians in the Afrobeats scene since its inception, maintaining an unwavering dedication to the genre's vibrant sound. With his Nigerian roots and firm grounding in the London music scene, Sosimi bridges continents through his music. Born in London in 1963 and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Sosimi was steeped in the cultural and musical heritage of the Yoruba, an experience that deeply informs his artistry.

His career took a significant leap when he joined Fela Anikulapo Kuti's Egypt 80 (1979-1986) and subsequently Femi Kuti's Positive Force (1986-1994), in which he honed his skills as a keyboardist, musical director, and as a creator of fiercely driven, colourful soundscapes characteristic of the Afrobeat genre. After his stint with both Kutis, Dele Sosimi started his own project and has been spreading his own interpretation of Afrobeat to a worldwide audience. His solo releases, including "For the Love of It" and "You No Fit Touch Am (Medlar Remix Radio)," showcase his fluency in blending jazz, funk, and traditional Nigerian music into a rich auditory tapestry. With a career that spans over four decades, Dele Sosimi has become a mentor and role model to many up-and-coming artists in the Afrobeat scene, keeping the legacy of the genre's founder vibrant and evolving. His albums, such as "State Of Play" and its remixed iteration, as well as collaborative projects like "The Confluence EP," highlight his propensity for innovation and collaboration.
