Vond is a project formed by Norwegian musician Håvard Ellefsen, better known under the pseudonym Mortiis. Vond, which means "disgust" in Norwegian, is an offshoot of Mortiis' main project and signifies a darker, more ambient-driven musical journey, distinct from the synth-heavy "dungeon synth" for which Mortiis is widely known. Vond's music has always been intensely personal, exploring themes of depression, environmental decay, and societal issues, presented through a soundscape that is both haunting and deeply atmospheric.
The project came into existence in the mid-1990s when Ellefsen was exploring various facets of his musical identity, and it has since then acquired a cult following among aficionados of dark ambient music. Some of Vond's most notable works include "Selvmord" (1994), which translates to "Suicide," exploring the deepest and darkest recesses of human despair. "The Dark River" (1996) continues this exploration with a more melodic but still somber tone. The morbidly titled "Aids to the People" (2017) and the eerily evocative "The Green Eyed Demon" (2017) followed after a lengthy hiatus, indicating a revival of the Vond persona and showcasing Ellefsen's enduring ability to craft soundscapes that resonate with the darker aspects of the human experience.
