Guy is an American R&B band that was formed in Harlem, New York in 1987. The group was originally composed of lead singer and songwriter Aaron Hall, his younger brother Damion Hall, and their friend and producer Teddy Riley, who is widely known as a pioneer of the new jack swing genre—a blend of R&B, hip hop, and funk that became wildly popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Guy released their self-titled debut album "Guy" in 1988, which went on to be certified double platinum and spawned hits such as "Groove Me" and "I Like," both of which showcased the group's strong vocal harmonies over dance-friendly beats.
The group's sophomore release, "The Future," came out in 1990, securing their position at the forefront of urban music with tracks like "Let's Chill" and the high-energy "D-O-G Me Out." Despite their success, the group went on hiatus in the following years, allowing Teddy Riley to focus on his production work for other artists and Aaron Hall to pursue a solo career. The band has since reunited on various occasions, releasing additional material and remastered versions of their classic hits, such as the "III" album. Their influence can still be felt today, as Guy's sound and production style have had a lasting impact on R&B and helped pave the wave for future generations of artists.
