Kitty Margolis

Kitty Margolis is an American jazz singer, educator, producer, and journalist, born on November 7, 1955, in San Mateo, California. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, she was exposed to a diverse range of musical influences, including folk, country, blues, and jazz. Margolis began her musical journey playing guitar, inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt. She later discovered jazz, which became her passion, and she went on to study under notable saxophonists like John Handy and Hal Stein. In 1988, she co-founded Mad Kat Records with vocalist Madeline Eastman, allowing her to produce music without commercial constraints.

Margolis has released several albums, including *Live at the Jazz Workshop*, *Evolution*, *Straight Up With a Twist*, *Left Coast Life*, and *Heart & Soul: Live in San Francisco*. Her work has featured collaborations with renowned musicians such as Joe Henderson, Charles Brown, and Roy Hargrove. She has toured extensively, performing at prestigious venues like The Kennedy Center and the Monterey Jazz Festival. Margolis has also been recognized with awards and nominations, including the BAM Bammie award for outstanding jazz vocalist and a nomination for the Soul Train "Lady of Soul" Award. Her contributions extend beyond music, as she has worked with non-profit organizations and served as a guest lecturer at various educational institutions.
