Told Slant

Told Slant is the indie folk/lo-fi music project helmed by Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Felix Walworth, known for their evocative lyricism, delicate melodies, and an almost spoken word vocal delivery that resonates with raw emotion. Born out of the fertile and collaborative DIY scene, Walworth began releasing music under this moniker in the early 2010s, drawing attention for their poignant and introspective storytelling set against minimalist instrumentation that often features gentle guitar strums and understated percussion.

The project gained significant acclaim with the 2016 release "Going By," a deep dive into the complexities of personal relationships and identity, showcasing Told Slant's distinctive blend of intimate confessionals and communal poetics. Following a period of reflection and growth, Told Slant returned in 2020 with "Point the Flashlight and Walk," an album that continued to push the boundaries of their sound with emotionally charged narratives and melodic experimentation. The vulnerability and authenticity that characterise Walworth's songwriting are evident in tracks such as "Whirlpool," "Run Around the School," and "Family Still / No Backpack," which explore themes of love, loss, and the quest for understanding in the constantly shifting landscapes of human connection. The contemplative "Still Water" further cements Told Slant’s reputation for crafting ambient, indie anthems that are as cathartic as they are captivating.
