Sudan Archives

Sudan Archives, whose real name is Brittney Denise Parks, is an American violinist, singer, songwriter, and producer known for her unique blend of global music influences, including ethnomusicology, R&B, and experimental electronic music. Born on August 19, 1995, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sudan Archives took an unconventional path to musical success. She began teaching herself to play the violin at a young age, inspired by the fiddle playing traditions of North Africa, particularly Sudan, from which she adopted her stage name. Her approach to the instrument is distinctive, often looping and layering her violin with electronic beats and soulful vocals to create an arresting soundscape that defies easy categorization.

Since her self-titled debut EP in 2017, Sudan Archives has carved out a niche in the music world that is entirely her own. Her debut full-length album, "Athena," released in 2019, was met with critical acclaim, showcasing her adeptness at fusing avant-garde sensibilities with accessible pop melodies. Her talent for reinvention is evident in her subsequent singles and remixes, where each track exhibits the breadth and depth of her artistry. With tracks like "Selfish Soul," which examines themes of femininity and identity, and "NBPQ (Topless)," which revels in the celebration of Black beauty, Sudan Archives continues to assert her role not only as a gifted musician but also as a thoughtful commentator on personal and societal narratives. With her ever-evolving sonic palette and a keen sense for stirring visuals, Sudan Archives promises to be a potent and enduring force in contemporary music.
