Julien Desprez

Julien Desprez is a dynamic musician and performer based in Paris. Born in 1984, he began his musical journey with a strong affinity for jazz and rock, which eventually evolved into more experimental and free-form sounds. Desprez is known for his innovative approach to the guitar, often treating it as a modifiable instrument that can be transformed through various techniques, including effect pedals reminiscent of tap dance. This unique style expands the possibilities of sound and physical performance, engaging his body fully in the creative process.

Desprez is also a co-founder of the Collectif Coax, a music cooperative in Paris recognized by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. His work spans sound art, performance, and contemporary improvisational music, focusing on how body, space, sight, and light interact with sound. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Charlie Haden, Mats Gustafsson, and Tortoise, among others. His projects often incorporate elements like choreography and video mapping, creating immersive experiences that challenge traditional notions of music and performance. Desprez's notable works include "Acapulco Redux," a project that combines music, dance, and visual elements to redefine the stage space.
