**21st Century Schizoid Band** was a spirited tribute project formed in 2002 by former members of the legendary prog-rock group King Crimson. The band reunited key players from King Crimson’s early years, including multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald (sax, flute, keys) and saxophonist Mel Collins, alongside other alumni like drummer Michael Giles and bassist Peter Giles. Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Jakko Jakszyk (later a member of King Crimson’s 2016 lineup), they focused on reviving King Crimson’s groundbreaking late-’60s and early-’70s material, including deep cuts and fan favorites like “21st Century Schizoid Man” and “In the Court of the Crimson King.”
Known for their energetic live shows, the band toured internationally, delivering nostalgia-packed performances that celebrated King Crimson’s formative era. Their releases, such as *Live In Barcelona* (2003) and *Live In Japan*, captured their tight, jazz-tinged reinterpretations of classic tracks. Though short-lived (active until around 2004), the Schizoid Band bridged generations of prog fans, offering a rare chance to experience Crimson’s early magic through the talents of its original architects.
