Payung Teduh is an Indonesian musical group known for their melodic blend of folk, keroncong, and jazz influences. The band was formed in 2007 in Jakarta and originally consisted of frontman Mohammad Istiqamah Djamad, known as Is, and guitarist Comi Karim. They were later joined by bassist Ivan Penwyn and drummer Cito. The band's name, which translates to "Shady Umbrella," reflects the soothing shelter their music aims to provide—a tranquil respite from life's hustle and bustle.
Over the years, Payung Teduh's evocative music has captured the hearts of many, thanks to their introspective lyrics and distinct sound that often features acoustic guitar, upright bass, and fluid percussion. Their substantial following grew from their live performances and independent releases before reaching a wider audience with their studio albums. Hits like "Akad" have cemented their status in the Indonesian music scene. Although Is, their lead vocalist, announced his departure from the band in 2018 to pursue a solo career, Payung Teduh continues to enthrall fans with their poetic compositions and emotive storytelling, as evidenced in their more recent releases like "Suar" and the nostalgic ode "Masa Kecilku."
