Ælbgut

Ælbgut is a German vocal ensemble founded in 2018, known for blending soloistic vocal performance with transparent ensemble singing, especially in early music repertoire from the 16th and early 17th centuries. The core members include soprano Isabel Schicketanz, alto Stefan Kunath, and baritone Martin Schicketanz, who share a passion for presenting music vividly and authentically while remaining closely connected to the text. Their collaboration began during a complete recording of Heinrich Schütz with conductor Hans-Christoph Rademann, which soon led them to form their own ensemble, inviting like-minded colleagues for projects. One of their notable recordings is J.S. Bach's "Johannes-Passion" (second version, 1725), released on Coviello Classics in 2020, marking the first major recording output of Ælbgut.

Ælbgut often collaborates with the Capella Jenensis orchestra, contributing to finely crafted interpretations of Baroque repertoire with a clear, chamber music approach. They focus on works tied to the cultural heritage of central Germany, notably projects exploring works connected with the Thuringian courts. Their repertoire includes composers such as Bach, Telemann, and Schop, emphasizing an authentic and articulate representation of early Baroque music. This dedication has made Ælbgut an important voice in the German early music scene, embodying a spirit of historical insight combined with musical warmth.
