Pebe Sebert is an American singer and songwriter from Brentwood, Tennessee, best known for her work behind the scenes as a hit songwriter and for being the mother of pop star Kesha. Born in 1956 in Michigan City, Indiana, Pebe began singing and making up songs as a child, performing publicly by age six and later training as a singer while also playing piano and guitar. She attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and toured with youth symphonies and choirs before diving into the music industry as a staff songwriter in Nashville. Over the years, she’s co-written number-one hits for artists like Dolly Parton, Pitbull, and Kesha, with her songs collectively selling over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Pebe’s own music career has been shaped by both triumph and personal struggle. After facing setbacks in the '80s, she refocused on songwriting and raising her family, eventually co-writing many of Kesha’s biggest hits and helping shape her daughter’s sound. In 2025, Pebe released her debut album, featuring recent singles like “City’s Burning,” “Hard Times Ahead,” and “Vampire,” marking a long-awaited return to the spotlight as a solo artist. Along the way, she’s also been open about her journey with addiction and recovery, and she’s the founder of The Magic Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to helping animals in Central America.
