Lightsey started piano lessons at age five and grew up immersed in jazz and big band music. Over his long career, he’s worked with legends like Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, and Pharoah Sanders, and has been recognized internationally, including being voted among the top pianists by DownBeat critics and named a Steinway artist. Since the 1980s, Lightsey has led his own projects, including his trio, known for albums like *Isotope*, *From Kirk to Nat*, *Temptation*, and *Everything Happens to Me*, highlighted by tasteful improvisations and a warm, inviting approach to jazz standards and originals. He’s also an accomplished flutist who occasionally incorporates flute into performances and has been based in Paris since the 1990s.
