Psoy Korolenko is a Russian singer-songwriter, scholar, and performer known for blending music, poetry, and humor into a unique multilingual cabaret style. Born Pavel Lion in 1967, he performs under the persona of Psoy Korolenko—a character that combines the absurd with the intellectual, drawing from Russian literary traditions, Jewish folklore, postmodern storytelling, and a broad mix of musical influences that span chanson, klezmer, hip hop, and avant-garde.
Psoy has built a reputation for his energetic and theatrical live shows, often featuring improvised lyrics and translations, and he frequently collaborates with artists across genres and geographies. He is also one half of the experimental folk duo The Unternationale, which reimagines radical and revolutionary songs from the past. Fluent in multiple languages and steeped in literary and historical knowledge, Psoy’s performances and recordings are a kaleidoscope of global sounds and ideas, delivered with wit, intellect, and a healthy dose of irony.
