Spragga Benz, whose real name is Carlton Errington Grant, is a Jamaican dancehall deejay renowned for his influential contributions to the genre since the early 1990s. Born on May 30, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, he entered the dancehall scene under the watchful eye of Buju Banton’s mentor, producer and sound system operator Bobby Digital, and later, famed dancehall artist Buju Banton himself. Spragga Benz made a splash with hits like "Jack It Up" and "Could a Deal" which catalyzed his rise in the dancehall community.
