Bhakta Raj Acharya, affectionately known as "Bhajan Shiromani," was a renowned Nepali singer and composer. Born in 1942 in Kurule Tenupa, Dhankuta, Nepal, he spent his early years in the Doars tea estate in India. Despite facing hardships, including losing his father at a young age and having to abandon his studies, Acharya pursued music with determination. His career took off in 1973 when he won a gold medal in the Rashtriya Geet Sammelan, a national singing competition held by Radio Nepal. This achievement led him to join Radio Nepal, marking the beginning of a successful career that spanned over 16 years. During this time, he recorded over 450 songs, with many being his own compositions.
Acharya's repertoire includes popular songs like "Jati Chot Dinchhau," "Jaha Chhan Buddha Ka Aankha," and "Hajar Sapana," as well as numerous bhajans. His legacy continues through his sons, Satya Raj Acharya and Sworoop Raj Acharya, who have followed in his footsteps as musicians. Bhakta Raj Acharya passed away on February 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy as one of Nepal's greatest singers. His music remains deeply revered in Nepali culture, and his life story is an inspiration to aspiring musicians.
