Victor Wooten is a virtuoso bass guitarist whose music seamlessly blends jazz, funk, soul, and world rhythms, earning him a reputation as one of the most talented and innovative bass players in the world. Born in Mountain Home, Idaho, on September 11, 1964, Wooten was raised in a military family and began learning to play music very early on, performing in his family's band by the age of five. His approach to the bass is holistic, incorporating advanced techniques with a deeply rhythmic sensibility and an exploratory spirit.
Throughout his career, Wooten has won multiple Grammy Awards and has been voted "Bassist of the Year" by Bass Player magazine over three times — the only person to have won it more than once. After rising to fame as a founding member of the eclectic ensemble Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Wooten continued to diversify his musical portfolio with solo projects and collaborative efforts. His discography as a bandleader reflects his dynamic range, including standout albums like "A Show of Hands" and "Soul Circus." Not content with just performance and recording, Wooten is also an influential educator, author of "The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music," and a dedicated mentor through his annual music camp, Vix Camps. His most recent works continue to push the boundaries of bass guitar, showcasing his sophisticated artistry and connection to the instrument.
