Can Çakmur is a rising star in the classical piano world. Born in 1997 in Ankara, Turkey, he's already made a big splash by winning first prize at both the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2018 and the Scottish International Piano Competition in 2017. Çakmur's not just about tickling the ivories though - he's also got a way with words, writing regularly for a classical music magazine and even giving talks at music festivals.
This young Turkish pianist has been busy in the recording studio too. He's released several albums with BIS Records, including works by Schubert, Brahms, and Liszt. His recordings have been turning heads, earning him praise from critics and even bagging him two consecutive ICMA Awards - a first in the awards' history. When he's not recording or writing, Çakmur can be found performing in prestigious venues around the world, from Wigmore Hall in London to Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
