Hubris

Hubris is a Swiss post-rock band founded in 2014 in Fribourg by guitarist and composer Jonathan Hohl. The band evolved from earlier metalcore roots blended with post-rock and ambient influences. After a breakup in 2013, some members regrouped focusing solely on the post-rock elements, gradually refining their sound over a couple of years. Their music uniquely combines progressive rock, metal touches, and elements of electronica and minimal electronic music, creating a rich and evolving sonic palette. Their distinct approach became clearer with their second album, "Apocryphal Gravity," marking a significant development in their style.

Jonathan Hohl’s journey to music was unconventional—initially pursuing British Literature and considering teaching before committing fully to music in his late twenties. Hubris reflects a blend of diverse musical experiences and a willingness to experiment, resulting in a sound that stands out in the Swiss post-rock scene. The band’s emphasis on atmospheric textures, progressive structure, and electronic integration makes them a fresh voice within their genre.
