Portraits of Past

Portraits of Past was a short-lived but highly influential post-hardcore band from the San Francisco Bay Area, active primarily in the early 1990s. Known for helping to pioneer the sound that would later be called "screamo," the band's intense, emotional music and chaotic live performances set them apart in the underground hardcore scene. Their combination of raw aggression, melodic build-ups, and expressive vocals influenced a generation of bands that followed in their footsteps.

Though they originally disbanded in 1995, Portraits of Past's legacy endured through their cult following and the lasting impact of their music. Their discography includes standout releases like the self-titled album often referred to as the "LP," as well as the 2009 EP "Cypress Dust Witch," which marked a brief reunion. While their time together was brief, Portraits of Past left an indelible mark on the post-hardcore and screamo genres.
