Jonathan Sells is a celebrated English baritone, conductor, and artistic director known for his work in early music. He studied Music and Musicology at Cambridge University and completed advanced training in Singing and Opera at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. From 2009 to 2018, he was a member of the prestigious Monteverdi Choir, making his conducting debut with them and the English Baroque Soloists in 2024, earning high praise for his interpretations of Bach motets. He is also the founder and artistic director of Solomon’s Knot, a renowned baroque collective recognized for its innovative and imaginative approach, including striking semi-staged productions of Bach passions and acclaimed recordings. Under his leadership, Solomon’s Knot has become the Resident Baroque Ensemble at Wigmore Hall and has collaborated widely across Europe and North America, setting new standards in early music performance.
